Hi. I'm Xay, and I'm agnostic.

I was raised Primitive Baptist, but I left the church when I was 16. It's been almost 10 years, and my folks are still convinced I'll join a church somewhere. I often hear, "We didn't raise you like that," from them, but I've stopped taking offense to it. I never understood how we're supposed to believe stuff we can't see or observe through scientific means. I used to believe in Santa, but my dad told me Santa didn't pay for any of my presents. I was 4, so I guess the seeds of doubt were planted early. ;)

It's tough living in the Bible Belt when you don't want a Bible.

Did you run out of space for the name? lol =p

Anyhoo, yay for this comm! Ummm, intro...

I'm Ebony. I was raised Xtian. My gramma was Southern Baptist. I went to church sparingly as a kid (mainly Easter or other "special" occasions) until about age 10. Then I started going again when my best friend and her sister got heavily involved. I never felt strongly about god/jesus. I "believed" by default. And my mother put the fear of god in me. lol I remember as a kid whenever I tripped or fell she'd say "see? God don't like ugly." It made sense when it came after I'd sid something wrong, but when it didn't it just felt weird and I began to believe god was random and a bit loopy.

I began questioning about 6-8 years ago. Finally I recognized I was atheist about 2 or so years ago. It was really hard to accept this 'cause I grew up believing atheists were evil, demonic spawns of satan. No, seriously. Now I'm aware but my family doesn't know. I figure it'll manifest itself somehow, but I'm not in a rush to express it. I just remain silent when they talk about God healing everything and blah blah.

I did. But "religio" looked Latin, and I thought it was cool, so I was like, "Whatever." :D

Same here. I don't think I'll ever be athiest (I need cold, hard proof before I can make that decision), but atheists were the worst of the worst according to my folks. I'm glad I now take most of what they say with a grain of salt.
